Atlas Poetica, Issue 20, February 2015

her calves
crumpled around
thick ankles
we still hear the sssswish
of her silk stockings

red squirrels
on top of the cliff
I focus
on the polar bear
at the bottom

you opened
the cage in my chest
to freedom
every wilding answers
when wanderlust calls

Oceans of Prairie

setting sail
from desolate crofts
to prairie farms
Gaelic songs resounding
all the way to paradise

hardscrabble men
racing toy sailboats
across sloughs
for a moment, at home
once more on the water
