one day

by the sea is all it takes . . .

my worries

disappear like spindrift

ribboning off every wave

let us put

this old heartache out

to pasture

have we not tended

to its needs long enough?

my apron full

of grandmother's sage

the blue scent

of prairie horizons

after longed-for rain

sunlight fills

cracks in the darkness

of sorrow

we spend our lifetimes

waiting to be whole

the fragrance

of hyacinth fills

my senses . . .

there is no room

for sorrow today

crowns of snow

soften every thistle

in the pasture

your words cannot

wound me now
